Announcing Wheelhouse Wednesdays
Live chats weekly on IG
Scroll to the end for info about a fun wacky event we’re hosting in Somerville, MA on April 23!
Never ones to rest on our laurels (such as they are), we’re embarking on a new little project. Emphasis on embarking. Emphasis on little.
In keeping with our maritime theme—a galiot is a sail- and oar-powered vessel, after all—we’re launching (ha!) a new venture:
Live informal chats between me (Henriette) and Anjali, lasting 15 minutes, each Wednesday. We’re calling this thing Wheelhouse Wednesdays, the wheelhouse being that part of a ship that houses the captain’s wheel.
The plan for Wheelhouse Wednesdays is that they be informal, only loosely planned, and short. You will learn things. You might laugh. Hopefully not AT us. Anjali and I will show up with one topic we want to discuss, and the whole conversation will span a mere 15 minutes. Sometimes we’ll be at our desks; sometimes we’ll be out and about. We’ll always show up ready to share our thoughts. Some ideas we want to talk about are: the specifics of capturing profanity in translation; how Hiberno-English (aka Irish-spoken English) uses the future tense; what recent discovery in backend of publishing rendered Anjali apoplectic; and more.
We want to make it easy for people to check in, so we’re on Instagram Live every Wednesday at 12:00pm Eastern Time, starting April 1.
No, this is not a prank.
Tune in at noon this Wednesday to see how we cope on our first outing. I will tell you now that the scariest thing is going to be that first ten seconds or so when one of us goes live and has to be on screen alone until she invites the other one in!
All you need to do is go to @galiotpress on your Instagram feed.
Feel free to let us know here if you plan to join us!
Upcoming Event: Book Karaoke!
You read that right. It’s karaoke, but with books!
Get ready to grab the mic and deliver your best dramatic reading of a passage from the Book Karaoke binder. It could be the opening of Anna Karenina or A Tale of Two Cities, or the ending of The Great Gatsby, or the beginning of Beloved or The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Whether you’re a poetry pro or a novel nerd, come join us for an evening of drama, laughs, and literature, and some unforgettable performances.
We’ve got the binder. You choose your passage. Give your friends a killer performance of your favorite prose!
This amazingness is taking place at Juliet restaurant in Somerville, MA. April 23, 6:00-8:00.
Food and drink will be available for purchase from Juliet restaurant.
Get your (very cheap) tickets here! Tell your friends! Bring them!
