We’re excited to be getting to work on our first two books. (As we speak, Henriette’s on deadline to send her editorial letter to Emily Ross, which is exciting in its own way!) There’s lots to look forward to next year with these books. AND… while you patiently wait to get to read them, we’ve got lots of other stuff brewing. (If you’re not a writer yourself, please consider sharing this newsletter with someone who is.)
Our free writing feedback series
Earlier this month, we ran our free feedback series on query letters and first pages, and, well, the feedback on those has been really lovely. Here’s what some workshop participants said:
“Frankly, I'm just plain euphoric that somehow, by great good fortune, I stumbled upon Galiot. It has been invaluable. And with a finished manuscript, I feel ready to begin that process of going out in the world.” -Linda Hildebrandt Kahn
“It was a very informative experience reviewing and seeing other query letters, learning from other participants' feedback, and hearing Anjali's perspective and wisdom. In a relatively short period of time, I learned a great deal and got invaluable feedback to revise my query.” -Sharon Horne
“This class was really a pleasure. Henriette was clear and made the attendees feel as if we were all in this together, this attempt at publication. And her comments were helpful to me, even while we were reviewing the work of other attendees.” -Alexandra Grabbe
Buoyed by how useful the participants felt these sessions were, we have added another set to our calendar. Consider these a holiday gift from us!
FREE query letter feedback series: Tuesdays January 14, 21, and 28 at 6 pm ET.
FREE first page feedback series: Wednesdays January 15, 22, and 29 at 6 pm ET.
And speaking of free, there’s also two new dates for the Publishing Info No One Talks About session: February 12, and March 11. Sign up now, or be a good pal and let a friend know!
More classes
In the new year we’ll be expanding our list of online classes. These will be short, one-time classes, either 90 minutes or 3 hours, and perhaps some short, 3-part series as well, all geared toward helping writers get their work ready and out into the world.
We’d love to hear from you: what types of classes would you like to see on offer?
Leave a comment or drop us a note at info@galiotpress.com.
These will not be free classes, as we do need to pay our instructors, but we’ll keep the rates as affordable as we can.
Come write and learn with us on Cape Cod or in Greece!
We’re holding two multi-day workshops:
April 2-6 in Wellfleet, MA, with guest instructor Grace Talusan
July 12-18 in Papingo, Greece, with guest instructor Cathy Elcik
Applications are open and accepted on a rolling basis. Give yourself (or a loved one) a true gift!
Past attendees of the Greece workshop, which Henriette has run for a few years, say this:
"I’ve attended the Krouna workshop three times and would love to go again. Henriette builds a welcoming, productive, and creative atmosphere that’s irresistible and unique.” - Sue Evans
“Under the expert guidance of Henriette Lazaridis, and in the magical setting of Papingo in northern Greece, the Krouna workshop was a game changer for me. It gave me the confidence to call myself a writer, and to believe in my book. I have now attended Krouna two years in a row, and am looking forward to a third year. I cannot recommend this workshop strongly enough.” –Daphne Vlachojannis
Time for some R&R
We’ll be taking a much-needed break for the next couple of weeks. (Next query spots will open Monday, January 6th.) We are looking forward to winding down the year. Our stories are more and more important to get out there, so we remain focused on our mission. We hope each of you has the opportunity to celebrate whatever you celebrate this time of year, and to do so among loved ones. In keeping with our multi-cultural roots and outlook, here’s a picture from the corner of Anjali’s living room.
Warm wishes,
Anjali & Henriette
R&R required. I'm sure you'll return refreshed and ready to find more manuscripts for publication.
Ganesh, a menorah, and a decorated tree. What could be more festive!
