We have a Kickstarter!
Two weeks ago we were forlorn that Kickstarter had declined our project. But! We got incredibly helpful feedback and advice from them, we re-shot our video, we edited our story, and boom! Acceptance.
Turns out that we really needed to focus more on our end product and less on our business model and process. So, our revised and accepted Kickstarter campaign focuses more clearly on one simple fact: we’re trying to raise $60,000 to produce our first three books.1
We know that writers and many readers will be interested in how we plan to operate, but wasn’t what Kickstarter necessarily wanted to hear. This Substack is a good place for that—and we’ll continue to use this newsletter for ongoing explanations of our whole process.
Now it’s your turn.
Help us by signing up on Kickstarter now. You’ll be notified when the campaign actually launches on April 10th. For now, you won’t be asked to make any pledges or payments. So far, we have just a pre-launch page up. Once we launch, you’ll be able to see the video (with some surprise cameos) and read the story and see the many fabulous (we think) rewards. But please do sign up now to be among the first with the opportunity to make a pledge when we go live.
Here’s why it’s so important to sign up now:
You’ll lead by example and demonstrate to others that you believe in our project.
You’ll show Kickstarter that we have support, which will make it more likely that Kickstarter will promote our project and name it a favorite.
You’ll contribute to vital momentum for our fundraising. The more people sign up to be notified of the campaign launch, the more people will make their pledge in the campaign’s early days (or even on the launch date of April 10). This all helps us meet our goal and potentially reach our stretch goals of $100,000 or even $150,000 (to produce our second set of three books and build out our website to host multiple ways for readers to connect directly with authors).
You’ll greatly ease our anxiety! And who needs two more anxious writer/editor/publishers? No one.
And here’s how to sign up (it only takes 2 minutes):
Go to our Kickstarter project page.
Click on “Notify me of launch”
If you already have a Kickstarter account, you’ll need to log in, and you’re done.
If you don’t already have a Kickstarter account, you’ll be prompted to create one. All you need to provide is your name and email address. There is no money transaction. That’s it!
You’ll get an email on April 10 to tell you the campaign is live. You’ll be able to make your pledge in a matter of minutes. We’ve got a whole range of exciting reward tiers!
And finally, here are other ways you can really be of help to us:
Forward this email to anyone–anyone!–you think might be interested in knowing about Galiot Press.
Post a link to our campaign in your own newsletter (if you have one) and on your social media networks. (We can send you ready-made graphics to post. Just email us for them.)
Tell us if you have contacts who work in the media who might have us for an interview, or to whom we could pitch a written piece.
If you are a writing instructor, share our campaign with your students and colleagues. (And we’d be happy to visit your class to talk about the publishing industry and our model.)
And We’re Off!
So, click, share, spread the word! Help us promote our campaign—and then watch along with us (but probably with less nail-biting) as we move to our next big milestone: opening for submissions this coming May!
As always, we want to make it clear that Galiot Press intends to function as a self-sustaining business. We are asking for financial support in the way of gifts now to help us reach the point of having a product to sell.
