We have a lot going on! And that includes several opportunities for you.
Street Team
As you probably know by now, at Galiot Press, we’re keen to build community—with a presence throughout and far beyond our Boston area. We’re on the lookout for partner businesses—places that might sell our books, or host an author event—and festivals or conferences where we might have a table for book sales, teach a class, or send our authors to speak, and writing programs who might be interested in our press. So we’ve come up with the idea of a Street Team, borrowing the term from the world of publicity and marketing.
Our Street Team will serve as ambassadors for Galiot Press, to give us a wider reach among readers. We’re pleased that several people have already offered to help out in this way, before they even knew what they’d be getting into in return.
Now we can tell you!
For each year you’re on the Street Team, you get:
a T-shirt
a tote (for books, of course!)
a 50% discount on one bundle of our spring and fall book collections for each year on the team
one free ebook
super coolness factor! Seriously, you’ll be a part of a wonderful initiative and community.
What you do:
Scout for local venues for possible events and for local partners for our unique distribution/point-of-sale/marketing combo1
Promote local events
Post on social media
Request that your local library carry copies of GP books
Tell your local independent bookstore about GP books
Tell local book clubs about our books
We’ll give you a TIP sheet for each of our books (with marketing information), a two page overview of GP that explains what we are about, and plenty of social media graphics for your posts.
If this sounds like something you’d like to do, please write to us at inquiry@galiotpress.com! And if you have ideas on how to shape the program, do let us know. We’d love to get 20 people signed up by September 1. And if you are outside of the Boston area, we especially want YOU.
Take a class! Retreat to Cape Cod!
We’ve begun offering our short classes, so visit our Learn page to sign up to bring your writing to the next level. Next in the calendar are The Motivated Writer, taught by Henriette on June 10th, and Novel Revision Between the Sheets, taught by Anjali on June 13th. Both classes are on Zoom, and still have a few spots open.
For a more intensive experience, check out our multi-day writing workshops, with our next one coming up this fall. The Galiot/Eastwind Writing Workshop will take place in Wellfleet, MA November 8-13. We’ll workshop your partial manuscript, have craft classes, spend some time writing, take beach walks, and enjoy the sunset over the marsh. Click here for more info and to apply.
Manuscripts! Exciting work is coming in
For the last three weeks, we’ve been up and running with our submissions process, and we’re delighted to be reading a lot of excellent and intriguing material from accomplished authors. If you’re interested in sending us your work—which you can do whether or not you have an agent—visit our Submissions page for information on our simple and efficient querying process. Next opening is this coming Monday. (This process has struck a chord, in a good way, with the writers who are sending us their work. Many have thanked us for what one of them termed our “humane” process.) We look forward to reading your material!
We thought about calling this a “crew”—to match the oars that a galiot ship carries—but that also suggests Mardi Gras and parade floats, and while we do plan to have fun with Galiot Press, it’s possible that the idea of 24/7 partying might make people a tiny bit suspicious of our work ethic. Hence we are not using the term “crew”.
More on that to come.
